This video is part of the Lenten worship series called: “The Struggle is Real, but So is God.” Message translation of John 12: 24-25 “Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over. In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life. But if you let it go, reckless in your love, you’ll have it forever, real and eternal.” Are you holding onto life just as it is?
What do you have to let die?
During this entire series, I’ve been talking about those things that bring you comfort. Are there things in your life that you really need to let go? A behavior, a person, a relationship, your attitude perhaps. There may be a place in your life that you need to just NOT go; and it is a struggle to realize the unhealthiness of it. Perhaps just the thought of someone fills you with rage or depression. Or perhaps you find comfort by indulging in unhealthy habits. Again, some things in our life we just need to let go. We need to let it stop breaking us down preventing us from being who God has intended us to be. All of us fall into this struggle. How long have you been holding onto that grudge? You just might need to let it die.
Our text tells us how Jesus prepares for his death. People celebrate Jesus shouting, “Our savior is here!” where as others plot to bring his life to an end; it is a signal that Jesus’ time is coming to an end. Just as Jesus died so that we could reap the rewards of forgiveness, some things in our lives need to die so that we can bare the fruit as well. There are things in your life that need to go away so that you can be more productive and successful in this life.
Don’t get mad, don’t raise your hand or your voice, don’t get depressed: Just let it go and let it die.
It doesn’t matter what kind of Christian you are in the church but what kind of Christian you are out there: in the community, at work, with family and friends, in the presence of strangers in the street. When those irritations arise, you just need to lean on God who will help you say to yourself, “Stop it!” He’ll help you not even let people know how much they’ve upset you and you’ll even start to have pity on them. And then, you’ll start to ask for a prayer for others as well. Why? Because you begin to believe how simple the situation is or how simple some people are and that you just simply need to let go to act as a child of God and forgive them for their simple-ness for they know not what they say and do.
Some things you just have to let die because the struggle is real. Old habits and old ways do NOT have to stay with you because God will give you the strength and perserverence . . . WATCH VIDEO ABOVE – LISTEN NOW – Find the peace that you deserve to have in this life.
