On June 21st, Pastor Rhoden, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles, spoke at the General Assembly Compassion, Peace, and Justice dinner event.  During this 222nd General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, Pastor Rhoden called for support of the Urban Ministry.

In an article by Bob Sloan on the pcusa.org site, Pastor Rhoden is noted to have spoken about the drugs and violence issues in our neighborhoods as well as the reality of the injustice of the world we live in.  He spoke of it being the churches responsibility to confront the issues and be a leader in transitioning our communities for the better good of all.   He gave an example in telling the role in which our own Westminster Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles had in cleaning up the deteriorated drug deal ridden unkempt landscaped park that once sat across the street from our church home noting that it no longer is a landmark for drugs and violence; today you see children and families playing in a newly renovated clean park.

“That is our mission field,” Rhoden said. “We are the ones  that make transformation happen.”
