The Center of My Joy(Richard Smallwood)

Welcome & Opening Prayer:

Ever-loving God,
We give thanks that you have gathered us into your church
and graced us with your faithful presence.
We ponder our history, ancient and still developing,
and marvel at the many expressions of your church.
Grant us the vision to be a part of a new reformation for the church
that will bring ever more joy and justice to the world.
Continue to gather us, the diverse lot of us,
into Jesus’ vision and dream
that your faithful people may be one in you.
  Amen.

Moment of Silence & Prayers of the People:

Gracious God, you have enriched and enlightened us by the revelation of your eternal Christ. Comfort us in our mortality and strengthen us to walk the path of your desire, so that by word and deed we may manifest the gracious news of your faithfulness and love.

Holy Father, Father of Christ who asked the disciples, “What are you looking for,” and who offered the invitation to “Come and See,” open our hearts to what you reveal and give us the courage to follow. By your Spirit aid us in our journey, so that like John, our words and deeds point to the Lamb of God. For those who are suffering, let us point to Christ through comfort. For those who are hungry, let us point to Christ through bread. For those in the grip of despair, let us point to Christ through hope.

Almighty God, whose Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, is the Light of the World: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word, may shine with the radiance of Christ’s glory, that he may be known, worshiped and obeyed to the ends of the earth.

We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever, as we continue to pray saying: Our Father, who art in heaven,  Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.  Amen.

GIVING

Call for the Offering & Offering Prayer:

We confess it is easy to sit and feel we have done enough just by being here. But there are those who cannot be here because they are ill and have no money for appropriate medical care. There are those who yearn to come to worship but their church was destroyed in an earthquake. There are those who long for the basics of life which we take as a given and our due. In gratitude for all that we have received, let us give generously that because of us, others might have a reason to smile. Thank you, loving God, for the chance to give.  Amen.

Offering Song:

Lord Keep Me Day By Day
(Albertina Walker)

HOLY COMMUNION

Call to Reconciliation:

We are good at rules: making them and then breaking them. Paul reminds us that, when we gain Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we receive exactly what we need – forgiveness, grace, hope. Let us confess our sins to God, that we might know God’s healing love for us!

Prayer of Confession:

     If we were to name all the gods we have before you, Rock of Redemption, we would be here a very long time. We elevate politicians into saviors, though they are as broken as we are. We misuse your name so much during the day, we have trouble speaking to you in prayer at night. We are so busy, we do not notice how creation witnesses to your goodness and grace.

     Forgive us, God our Hope. Help us to let go of what we value most, so we may open our emptiness, our hearts, our lives to the healing and loving presence of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Assurance of Pardon:

Persistently, patiently, lovingly, God pours out grace and joy into our lives,
healing our brokenness, forgiving our sin.
Loved, we are sent to love;
forgiven, we are freed to forgive;
graced, we can offer our gifts to everyone we meet.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

Communion Song:

“The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power” – Chrystal Washington and Lillie Knauls

Communion:

Closing Song:

Lift Every Voice And Sing(Kirk Franklin)

CLOSING PRAYER

Eternal God, grant us the grace to see your vision of blessings for all your children;
Give us the hope to make your vision real in your world;
Provide us with love that knows no limits, least of all the boundaries of poverty, sickness or death;
And may our lives reflect your vision in ways beyond our imagining, all in Jesus’ name.

Amen.
