HELLO! WELCOME TO WPC

Sunday, April 10, 2022

Good morning, Thank you for choosing to join Westminster in our Zoom Worship service on the 2nd Sunday of April, April 10, 2022 Palm Sunday.  Would you bow your heads as I pray our Opening Prayer.
(Please keep yourselves muted.)

Virtual Worship

Shhh, Virtual Worship is Starting

Opening Prayer:

The story of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem,
tells us that after his celebrated arrival.
He went into the Temple
and looked around at everything.

As we gather here for worship today
may it be with a sense that Jesus
has walked in too and is looking around.

May our eyes be open to see Him,
may our hearts be ready to be seen by Him,
may our worship be worthy of His presence,
and may we be transformed
so that we see the world through His eyes.
Amen.

SPEAKER: Pastor Carlton Rhoden of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles

Opening Praise Song:

“Ride on King Jesus”
(Trinity Community Church of God Vocal Ensemble)

Opening Praise:

“The Holy City”

Old Testament Scripture Reading:

Isaiah 50:4-9a

Let us together recite the Apostles Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
from whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

Amen.

Prayers of the People:

Holy God, no day is a better reminder of our fickle nature than today. One minute, we are your adoring and enthusiastic supporters waving palms and shouting praise. The next minute, we are gripped by anger. We are hurling insults. We’re after blood. While we “go along to get along” and ride the rollercoaster of our emotions, you are the same yesterday, today and always. Your faithfulness is unchanging, your love unwavering. You never deviated from your purpose to rescue us from the sin that besets — and bests — us. You set out for Jerusalem and finished your journey even in the face of our humiliating betrayal of you. We praise you as our faithful, loving, redeeming God. Hosanna in the highest!

Let us pray the prayer Jesus the Christ  taught us to say… Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.   Amen.

GIVING

Offering Song:

“Psalm 23”
(John Rutter and the Atlanta Master Chorale)

Offering Prayer:

Triumphant God, we echo the shouts of “Hosanna!” as we relive the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and all that waits in the week to come. Like that first parade so long ago, we may have different ideas of what kind of a messiah we long to welcome. Many of us seek one who thinks like we think, who will wield power to meet our longings. As we give our gifts this morning, may we be of the heart and mind of submission. You know better than us the messiah that is needed for your kingdom to come on earth, as it is in heaven. In Christ, we pray.   Amen.

SERMON MESSAGE

Sermon Song:

“The Holy City”
(Stanford Olsen and The Tabernacle Choir)

Closing Song:

“Pleasing”
(The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir)

CLOSING PRAYER

My friends, go forth from this place in joy, praising God for his gift of enduring love. Lift high the palm branches of our faith, waving them in thanksgiving for the steadfastness of a loving God who is with us always, even as we travel our own roads to Jerusalem.  Amen.
