WELCOME & OPENING PRAYER

Welcome:

Good morning, Thank you for choosing to join Westminster in our Zoom Worship service on this 5th Sunday of October.  Would you bow your heads as I pray our Opening Prayer.  Please keep yourselves muted.

Opening Prayer:

Gentle God, you shepherd us in times of trouble. When the way seems dark, you guide us safely through. When we cannot bear to slow down, you show us the wisdom of Sabbath rest. In your presence there is life, overflowing, abundant and free.

As we rest in your goodness, teach us, O Lord, to see with your heart. Open our eyes to the world beyond our neighborhoods, and to your beloved children both near to us and far. Open our hearts to the blessed fierceness of your creation, which sustains us and yet is more powerful than we can imagine.

Anoint us with your spirit of blessing, that we might be as Christ to one another, in our welcome, compassion and care. Amen.

Opening Praise

BREAK OUT ROOMS FOR MEET & PASSING OF THE PEACE

Prayers of the People

How grateful we are, most loving creator, for the abundance of life that is ours. You give us a world of beauty and eyes to behold it. You give us the joy of children to love, and the ability to feel the love in a tiny hand wrapped around one of our fingers. You give us a bounty of food, and the luxury of tasting delicious treats to savor and enjoy. You give us flowers blooming, the sea surging and the ability to take in the sweetness of fragrant flower aromas and the scent of salty air. You give us all this and even more: the time to enjoy the blessings you have bestowed upon us.

In these moments of stillness, we ask you to forgive us for squandering the wealth that is ours. We busy ourselves with tasks instead of children; we complain about shopping for groceries and washing the dishes. We waste time watching television or playing computer games instead of noticing the glory of the world around us. Turn us around, Lord.

Awaken us to the wonder in our every day: the sounds of laughter, the smell of coffee, the taste of a crisp apple, the sight of a smile on a loved one’s face. Turn us around, Lord, to the realization that this day, this moment will not come again. Turn us around, Lord, and grant us the grace to treasure what we have been given. We ask these things in the name of the one who came that we might see what a life of abundant love looks like, Jesus our Lord who taught us to say when we pray … Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts,as we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Offering Prayer

Lord, we thank you for your faithfulness. We are so grateful that we can always count on you. Out of your abundance and great mercy, you have given us so much. And so we give you this offering today. With it we worship you and give our whole selves to you. Take it now and use it for your kingdom and your glory. Extend and multiply its reach and influence, we pray. May it be a great blessing to many. We ask all this in the powerful name of Jesus.  Amen.
